Hi All,
I wanted to give everyone some more detailed instructions about editing expiration/activation dates.
As you know, VolunteerMatch has a 6-month expiration policy for all opportunity listings. If you would like to postpone the expiration of a listing to keep it active on our site, simply follow these steps:
-Log into your account at VolunteerMatch.org
-Select an organization to manage.
-Select the listings you’d like to extend using the check boxes in the listing table and then click the 'Change Expiration' button:
[Note: If your listing takes place on a specific date(s), you’ll need to edit the expiration date from within that listing. These types of opportunities are indicated by the calendar icon show on the right side of the listing table]:
-To change the expiration date for a listing that takes place on specific date(s), click anywhere on that listing’s row in the Listing Table on the 'Manage Organization' page. This will bring up a detailed view pane underneath your listing table. Then click 'Edit' from the toolbar underneath the listing title.
-The next page allows you to set the expiration date of your opportunity. Use the calendar to select a new expiration date in the future. This date cannot exceed the event's End Date, or be more than 180 days from the current date. Click 'Continue.'
-If you would like to add Multi-ZIP coverage, select a coverage area from the pull-down menu on the next page. Our system will automatically calculate the number of ZIP codes in the area and the associated price. Click on 'Add ZIP Codes' to proceed to checkout.
-If you do not wish to add ZIP codes to your listing, simply click on 'No Additional ZIP Codes."

I’m
jazzed.
VolunteerMatch has a 6-month expiration policy for a listing, and there are a couple of ways you can edit it:
When publish a listing you’ll see its expiration date on the confirmation screen and have the option to change it. We automatically set this date so that your listing is active for the maximum possible time. For ongoing activities, this is 6-months, whereas for activities taking place on specific dates, it is the last day of the activity.
You can also edit any listing’s expiration date from your organization dashboard. Select the listing or listings you'd like to change using the select boxes in the listing table and then click the Change Expiration button. Enter the new expiration date and you’re done! -

Is there any way to make an active listing inactive other than changing the expiration date to a date in the past? It seems like there should be a button or link for "Make this listing inactive."
Thanks,

I just read that you can change the expiration date to something in the past. It worked, but it would be nice to have an easier way to manage listings.

Why is my opportunity not published on your site? The title of the opportunity is "FREE Film Screening and Round Table Discussion to Follow: "Daisy Bates: First Lady of Little Rock."" which is held on 1/17/2012. Please help.

Hello Jason,
When I looked up your account all opportunities were active except for the ones which expired in in months previous. To reactivate and opportunity and make it visible to users on the site you will need to edit the activation dates. See above for directions.
Hope this answers your question. If not let me know by responding to this post.

Hello Matt,
I guess I jumped the gun on this one. Shortly after I sent you this question, my opportunity was approved and live on the website. I didn't know it had to be approved, so I was in a bit of a panic when I didn't see it immediately live. That's my bad for for being so impatient. Again, I'm sorry.
But thank you so much for responding to me! I really appreciate it. Have a good one!
best,

I would like to add my organization's events for the upcomming year now - but would like them to become active/viewable about a month before the event. How do I do this?

Hello Melissa,
Unfortunately our system does not allow for you to postpone the activation date of an opportunity. You can however, create all of your upcoming opportunities and then purposefully deactivate them.
For directions on how to edit the activation dates see my responses above.
Instead of reactivating...set all your dates in the past. Once your event is a month out log in and activate each opportunity as necessary.
Hope this helps!

Hello Annie,
To temporarily suspend your account all you need to do is deactivate your active listings so they are no longer visible to potential volunteers. For instructions check out my previous responses above. You might also find the following link helpful:

It appears that I have about a dozen opportunities to extend the expiration on and, after doing only one of them, no more appear as needing updating. Why is this happening?

Editing Opportunities' expiration dates.-
Hello Alice,
It would appear that you performed a 'Bulk Edit'. Checking the boxes on the left hand side of your opportunity list allows you to edit multiple opportunities at once. All of the 'Active' opportunities in your account were edited on the same date. This is indicative of a 'Bulk Edit'.

I have 2 people for bunny salad chef & only need 1 for that job. I have a feeling we will get alot of volunteers for that duty. We need the help & I appreciate it but as I said once we fill that spot we don't need it filled anymore. How can I limit the amount of volunteers who can sign up for each opportunity?

Hello Willow,
You can specify the number of desired volunteers in the description of the opportunity. Then, once you recruited a sufficient amount of volunteers simply deactivate the opportunity to remove it from our search results.
