When I try to add a new opportunity, I'm asked if I want to save it in my own computer files and I'm not able to move forward to the next posting step
Everytime I try to set up a new volunteering opportunity, or revise an old one, I get this message: {"errors":{"title":"Please give your listing a title","contact_id":"Please select a contact from the list.","description":"Please provide a description of your activity","categories":"You must select at least one Interest Area","required_fields":"Please complete required fields."},"status":"fail"}

helpful!
Hello Vicky,
I'm sorry you've been having trouble with our system...I know how frustrating internet stuff can get!
I looked at your account and everything appeared to be in working order. I had the engineering team look for any site related bugs. Everything was good to go.
The problem might be related to your internet browser...restart your computer and try to post your opportunity again.
Please let me know if this problem keeps happening. If necessary, I will contact you directly.
Thank you!

Hello, We have left 4 messages on your answering service. For weeks no, when we try to post our ads, near the end of the posting process, a pop up window comes up asking us in what program we want to save our ad...? It won't let us post. We close the window and it takes us back to the beginning of the process. This happens over and over. once in a while it will let us "through" and actually post the ad. we have left several messages over the last 8-10 days, with no response. We depend heavily on the volunteers we recruit through Volunteer Match. Thank you for your time! Jeanine

Can't Post!?.-
Hello Jeanine,
I'm sorry you've been having these issues with our site. And I apologize that no one has gotten back to you via phone. I've sent a number of emails--with posting instructions--to your account. If you have not been receiving my emails, I am happy to chat over the phone (I just left you a voice mail).
I have merged your topic here so that I can better track these types of issues for our engineering team.
When I logged into your account and attempted to re-create the problematic scenario you mention above I was unable to reproduce it. The system allowed me to continue through the listing flow without interruption. If you are still experiencing this issue can you please take a screen shot of the alert window you mention above? Please post this screen shot as an image in your response to this post.
I also noticed the majority of your postings had expired. An easy way to get these existing posts on our site would be to edit the activation dates. Note:
If an opportunity is date-specific (e.g. per-determined start and end dates) you cannot edit the expiration dates without changing the time frame to 'Ongoing'. This is to prevent outdated opportunities from showing up in search results. To change the expiration dates of the opportunity in question you need to edit the opportunity first...for directions click on the link below:
How To Edit An Existing Opportunity
For directions on posting a new opportunity, click on the link below:
How To Create A New Opportunity
I hope this helps.

When trying to add and update a new listing, why am I being asked to save updates in my own personal files?

Hello Crystal,
I just left you a voice mail. Our engineering team was under the impression that this issue had been resolved. We have reopened the case and are looking into this again.
I will send you an email with my contact info so that we can schedule a time to talk more about what is happening on your end.
Look for my email shortly.

Hi Crystal,
Thank you for getting back to us.
I'm glad you were able to updated your listing yesterday and added a new one with no problems.
Thank you so much for helping us test/troubleshoot our updated code that now fixes this issue.
Your time and patience is appreciated.

I click "Next Step" and nothing happens... I am able to save the draft of an opportunity, but nothing advances when I click "Next Step" (and there are no alerts saying that I've done something wrong, nothing is timing out, but the "hand" icon that allows me to click on things no longer appears to click "next step" again)... HELP

Hi, I'm not sure how often others are experiencing technical difficulties, but wanted to share two primary challenges that I have pretty frequently. When I input a volunteer request, I often see the message, "Do you want to run or save the information (to a drive)" and I just want it to be added to your site. Instead, it creates a draft. I also have had problems recently where it says "processing" and freezes w/o my being able to save the changes to an existing opportunity. I work for a huge county agency and we have the latest computers and technology, so I'm guessing it's technical difficulties on your site, but I could be wrong. Any guidance would be appreciated!

I’m
working on solving this problem!
Hi All -
I wanted to apologize on behalf of our team for any frustration the problems with our Opportunity Listing Wizard have caused.
From the number of members that have had similar problems with the Opportunity Listing Wizard, it may seem like we're being unresponsive or are unable to resolve bugs in our service. However, I wanted to share that we've been working very hard on these problems, and we're typically able to find what's causing these errors and help our users resolve them.
However, often users report similar problems over several months, and what we've found is that these problems often have similar symptoms, but different root causes.
Generally, the Opportunity Listing Wizard problems we've been able to track down fall into the following categories of root cause :
Browser Compatibility - Keeping Up with the Firefoxes
When new browser versions are released, we often need to make changes to our service to fix bugs that are caused by incompatibilities between our code and the new browser version. For better or worse, new versions of browsers (particularly Firefox) are being released constantly. This year, Firefox has already released 3 new versions of its browser, and in two out of these three upgrades, we have found significant problems that needed to be fixed with the new versions.
As a nonprofit organization, we have limited resources to proactively test every part of our service with the latest browser versions. We follow a policy of testing new browsers/browser versions when a certain percentage of our users start using it (about 5%). In some cases, we will fix bugs in new browsers before they reach this "support threshold" - specifically when we receive 2 or more complaints indicating that multiple users are having problems using our service.
Browser Plugins
Thousands of people visit VolunteerMatch each week, and every one of them has a unique combination of web browser/version, operating system, and every web developer's worst nightmare - a veritable zoo of Browser Plugins and Add-Ons.
We love browser plugins too - they can be very useful. However, there are some browser plugins that cause problems in the websites you visit. They may modify the contents of the page; or prevent javascript from functioning properly; or, in some cases, they may simply cause the browser to behave in erratic/unpredictable ways.
VolunteerMatch simply can't design our features or test our service with these plugins in mind - there are too many of them, and some of them are poorly designed, and it's often difficult to track down technical information on how to resolve problems caused by these tools.
If we identify a problem caused by a browser plugin, the best we are going to be able to do is recommend that you use a different browser (without the plugin), or remove the plugin from your browser.
3rd Party Services
VolunteerMatch uses several "3rd Party" services within our tools to provide things like Maps and Analytics (Google), Site performance and user satisfaction (New Relic), and Support/Community Forums (Get Satisfaction). Each of these services requires extra code to be loaded into our pages from other servers. Most of the time, these bits of code load very quickly - however, sometimes they slow down and make tools like the Opportunity Listing Wizard run very slowly too.
We are looking into ways to make these slowdowns have less of an affect on our users - for example, if Google Maps is taking too long to load, perhaps we can modify the Opportunity Listing Wizard to hide the Map preview so that we can you can continue with your posting despite the problem.
Unfortunately, these kinds of changes are tricky, and we need to design and test thoroughly so they don't cause new problems.
In conclusion, we ask for your continued patience, as well as your time and cooperation to help us get the information we need to identify and fix bugs in our service. Our Nonprofit Services team is top notch, and they are at your service, but they need your help too!
Thanks, and we appreciate your participation in our community.

i am on http://www.volunteermatch.org/post/co... attempting to resend a verification email because i have been unable to post new opportunities.
A gray frame that says Corporations and Blogs appears on the right side of my screen and blocks my view of important information I need as an account manager. I am trying to find the link that allows me to resend a verification email because I have been unable to post new opportunites for a long time. According to prior support posts this is a step i should be pursuing. I have already cleared my cookies, histories, et.al.
First, It is frustrating beyond expression; second I can't move it, shrink it or otherwise make it go away, and; last, it will not allow me to take a screen shot to send you a picture of what I am talking about. hmpf.
I usually love change.

Do you want to save this file, or find a program online to open it? Name: opportunitylisting6bf41db5 Type: Unknown File Type, 143 bytes. My choices are to Find, Save, or Cancel. None of them work. I am using Internet Explorer Version: 8.0.6001.18702. This is a work PC and I am unauthorized to download software (firefox etc). Please help?

I'm trying to create an event for my organization, but the website won't let me get past the "Image" portion of creating the event. When I try to click "Next Step" at the bottom right, it makes me save a file instead of finishing the event creation process.
I'm using the latest version of Internet Explorer. I'm not seeing any error messages, it just won't let me finish the process.

I can't post a volunteer opportunity. Every time I try to post in the first screen, when I push "save draft" OR "next," a dialog box pops up & says "an error has occured. Please reload the page & try again." Reloading has not worked. Tried in two different browsers - Google Chrome and Internet Explorer.
