How do I perform an advanced search for an opportunity that matches my skill set?
I just graduated from college (major: accounting) and would like to put my knowledge to community services.

Hi Ndack!
When searching for volunteer opportunities on VolunteerMatch you can filter results by specific skill sets using the tools provided on the 'Advanced' search page. To create your customized search follow these steps:
Click 'Find Opportunities'
Click on 'Advanced' (as listed next to the 'Search' button)
Input your desired skill set into the box labeled 'Skills' (e.g. 'Accounting,' 'CPA,' or 'Book Keeper')
Input you Zip code at the top of the page and click 'Search'
Scroll through your results until you find an opportunity that matches your criteria. Then click on 'I Want To Help' to contact the organization directly.
Happy Searching!

I have 36 years of banking experience and would like to help as a tax preparer. I have no tax prep training but do have experience with 1040 and 1040S and Oregon forms. Would you be interested ? In the 1980 I volunteered with a precurser to the volunteer match program through the Albany Chamber of Commerce with Janet Steele when I worked at First Interstate bank, now known as Wells Fargo bank.

Hi Marti -
Thanks for your interest in skilled volunteering! While VolunteerMatch is not directly affiliated with any of the organizations that post on our site, hopefully the information above can help you find a local opportunity that will allow you to use your extensive experience. I'd also suggest an advanced search using keywords to help you hone in your volunteering options.
Good luck!

I work for a non-profit agency who has a contract w/the State of NH whereby TANF recipients must do community services in lieu of benefits. My organization works w/non-profit agencies to get that community service, monitor the work and help where needed. Are there non-profit agencies in the USA that are in need of assistance w/telephoning, data-entry, putting together packets, etc. that we could do from our NH location?

Hello Penny,
In addition to searching for 'skilled' volunteer opportunities (I recommend using words like 'telephoning', 'data-entry' 'packets' etc.) you might want to check out our 'Great For Groups' search filter. For further directions click on the following link:

I am a janitor, with 15 years office cleaning experience. Due to Asthma, however, I am limited to cleaning offices, and hallways. My lung condition prohibits me from sanitizing restrooms, of cafeteria's. Still, I am able to do general cleaning, including cleaning parking lots, and sidewalks, as well as office cleaning.
Also, while working, as a volunteer, at St. John's Hospital, as a dock worker, I acquired extensive experience with delivery of goods throughout the hospitals main campus. Primarily, I used rolling sled, to deliver packages, but I have experience with using hand-trucks", and even with dragging packages, which were too tall, or long, for equipment usage. I remain a fully capatable office cleaner, just as I remain a fully capable delivery person. These would be my favorite tasks, since I can, always, see my progress, throughout the day.

How can you volunteer to work directly with the children and families instead of doing admin./misc. tasks? I love doing things with children and have worked with them professionally in previous career. I have since became an accountant but continually seek ways to help children by volunteering. Finding those ways seems challenging. Can you help?

I graduated from Lake Washington Institute of Technology with a certificate in dental assisting in August of 2010. I haven't done any dental assisting work (aside from work as a sterilization assistant) since then. I'd like to volunteer as a d.a., but don't know if anyone would want an inexperienced assistant.
