Greetings, VolunteerMatch Nonprofits!
We’ve had a few questions about our program with Allstate to provide grants to nonprofits that engage volunteers around MLK Day of Service. Through grants from Allstate, five organizations will be awarded $1,000.
The big question is how to make sure your organization is eligible. Fortunately, it’s easy:
-In order to qualify for consideration, your volunteer opportunities must take place between Jan 14 – Jan 18, 2012 to be eligible. That is, your volunteer tasks should be underway during those days. They can also be underway before and/or after those days, but they need to cover at least one of those days. Be sure to indicate this when you assign dates to your listings.
-Five winners will be selected in a random drawing after MLK Day.
The most important thing is to think through your organization’s volunteer needs and then make sure you have updated your account and listings to get the most out of MLK Day. As one of the biggest volunteer days in the year, it’s a great opportunity to connect with new volunteers... both for MLK Day projects and beyond.

2012 Allstate MLK Day Grants: How Can Your Organization Participate?
-
Hi there,
I just received your email about the MLK Day of Service $1,000 incentive. Thank you for offering such an amazing opportunity!
I submitted an event on the 18th and have had one person sign up. Am I correct that the Friends of Tryon Creek are now entered into the drawing?
Have a great holiday,
Sarah Kreisman

I am trying to apply for this 1,000 grant but unable to find out where?

Hello John,
You can click on the link included in my original post (see above) for contest rules and regulations. Your organization on VolunteerMatch must have an active opportunity running during the dates listed (in the link above) to qualify for the grant money.

Hi,
I also have received the email about the MLK Day of Service and I have a few questions. Am I able to submit a collaborative project that my non-profit organization is hosting with another organization similar to the volunteer match?
The event our organization is hosting will take place on January 14th. We have volunteers registered but not through your volunteer match site. Is that okay?
Lastly, if we are submitting without posting onto your site, it says we should submit the name and address of our organization and mail it in. Do we also have to include a description of the project we are hosting? Will we be equally eligible to win as those who posted an opportunity through your site?

Hello Candace,
Please refer to the official contest rules and regulations:
http://media.volunteermatch.org/docs/MLKDay_Nonprofit_Sweepstakes_Official_Rules_FINAL.pdf
If you your organization is not currently listed on VolunteerMatch--and you still wish to enter the contest--you will need to send a postcard to the address listed in the link. Include basic information about your organization--there is no mention of an opportunity description.
I hope this helps.

Hi Matt!
I am pretty sure Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary is qualified for the contest ( http://www.volunteermatch.org/search/...# ). Two people have registered so far. Am I correct?
Thank you!

For the AllState MLK Day 2012 Sweepstakes, how does an organization enter? I've looked over the "Official Rules", but I'm still not clear. How will AllState know if the project took place on the dates listed (1/14/ 2012- 1/18/2012)? Does the project listing that is posted on the VolunteerMatch website have to say that the project is to take place on one of those dates?
